    • Empower Teaching Assistants to go beyond

      The Level 5 Specialist Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship empowers current teaching assistants to go beyond traditional support roles—enabling them to lead targeted interventions, support learners with complex needs, and contribute to shaping inclusive, evidence-based teaching practices.

    • What will you learn?

      Learners will build skills in supporting independence, adapting approaches to meet individual needs, using assistive technology, and working collaboratively with education professionals and external agencies. The programme also develops understanding of safeguarding, wellbeing, equality and inclusion, alongside reflective and professional practice within specialist support roles.

      Develop knowledge of statutory and non-statutory frameworks including the National Curriculum, EYFS, and SEND legislation.

    Delivery method

    The apprentice will work towards the Specialist Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship standard at Level 5. Functional Skills in Maths and English at Level 2 may also be required prior to completion, unless exemptions are already held.

    • Behaviour and inclusion support assistant
    • Academic support mentor.

    During the apprenticeship, the employer and Access Trainer will agree when the apprentice is ready for the End Point Assessment (EPA).

    An independent assessment organisation will carry out the EPA to confirm the apprentice has met all requirements of the standard. EPA typically includes:

    • Observation of practice in a specialist setting
    • Portfolio of evidence
    • Professional discussion based on specialist practice.

      The apprentice will work towards the People Professional Apprenticeship standard at level 5, and may also be required to sit functional skills at level 2 in Maths and English prior to completion (functional skills will not be required if exemptions are held).

      The programme includes completion of the Level 5 CIPD Diploma in People Management – a CIPD accredited qualification that is recognised across the industry.

      • 20 minute presentation with Q&A
      • Professional discussion supported by a portfolio of learning.
      • Final assessment for the CIPD Associate Diploma in People Management.
