      The AI and Automation apprenticeship is designed for individuals looking to develop practical digital skills that support innovation, efficiency, and modern ways of working. Suitable for a range of industries and business environments, the programme explores how AI and automation tools can be used to improve processes, support decision making, and enhance productivity within the workplace.

    • What will you learn?

      Apprentices will develop knowledge of emerging technologies, digital processes, automation tools, and responsible AI use, alongside key professional skills such as problem solving, communication, and continuous improvement. Through practical workplace learning, learners will build the confidence to support digital transformation and contribute to the future development of their organisation.

      The programme also helps organisations embrace digital transformation by developing staff who understand how emerging technologies can support innovation, streamline operations, and enhance decision making across the workplace.

      The AI and Automation apprenticeship can support progression into a range of digital, operational, and technology-focused roles. Learners may continue to develop their skills through higher-level digital apprenticeships, specialist AI or data pathways, leadership and management programmes, or further professional development linked to digital transformation and innovation within their organisation.

    Course Information

    Start date: September 2026

    Course Duration:  18 Months

    Delivery method

    • Workplace learning
    • Monthly training sessions
    • Blended delivery (face-to-face / online where applicable)

     

    The apprentice will work towards the Level 4 AI & Automation Apprenticeship Standard.

    Functional Skills in Maths and English at Level 2 may be required prior to completion, unless exemptions are already held.

    During the apprenticeship, the employer and Access Training will agree when the apprentice is ready for the End Point Assessment (EPA).

    An independent assessment organisation will carry out the EPA to confirm the apprentice has met all requirements of the standard. EPA typically includes:

    • Professional discussion (underpinned by portfolio of evidence)
    • Project or improvement report
    • Presentation with questions and answers (where applicable to the standard).

      Programme Overview

      • Developing internal project management skills

        This apprenticeship helps organisations build confident project professionals who can support and deliver work effectively across a range of environments. Apprentices develop practical skills in planning, coordination, budgeting and stakeholder communication, alongside a strong understanding of governance, risk and quality management. The programme is designed to strengthen internal capability, improve project consistency and support better delivery outcomes across teams.

      • Who is this apprenticeship for?

        The Associate Project Manager Level 4 apprenticeship is designed for individuals working in or progressing into project delivery roles. It provides the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to support and lead elements of projects across a range of sectors, from initiation through to completion.

      • What’s included?

        Apprentices develop a strong understanding of project lifecycles, governance frameworks and business case development, alongside practical experience in stakeholder engagement and communication. The programme also focuses on managing key project constraints, including scope, time, cost, quality and resources.

      • How does it support the business?

        A key element of the course is developing the ability to monitor progress and performance. Apprentices learn how to track budgets, analyse data, manage risks and support change control processes, ensuring projects remain on track and aligned to organisational objectives.

      As an apprentice, you will work towards the Level 4 Associate Project Manager standard, and may also be required to sit functional skills at level 2 in Maths and English prior to completion (functional skills will not be required if exemptions are held).

      The apprenticeship is assessed through an End-Point Assessment (EPA), completed once the apprentice meets gateway requirements.

      The EPA confirms the apprentice’s ability to apply project management principles effectively in real workplace scenarios, demonstrating both technical knowledge and professional behaviours. This includes:

      • Submission of a project proposal
      • Portfolio of evidence demonstrating competence against the standard
      • Presentation and professional discussion with an independent assessor.

        • Developing operational excellence in schools

          The School Business Professional Level 4 apprenticeship is designed for experienced school administrators, office managers, finance officers and operational support staff who are responsible for managing business functions within a school or trust.  

        • Who is this apprenticeship for?

          It is suitable for those already working in a school environment who are ready to broaden their responsibility, develop strategic awareness and contribute more directly to organisational leadership. The programme supports individuals working across maintained schools, academies and multi-academy trusts who oversee finance, HR, compliance, facilities or wider operational management. 

        • What’s included?

          The programme develops the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to manage school business functions effectively. Learners explore finance, procurement and value for money; governance and regulatory compliance; HR and recruitment; resource management; marketing; project management; risk management and problem solving. The course also covers communication, stakeholder engagement, managing change and leadership behaviours. Throughout the programme, learners apply learning directly to their workplace, building a portfolio of evidence and completing a work-based project in preparation for End Point Assessment 

        • How does it support progression?

          On successful completion, apprentices achieve the nationally recognised Level 4 School Business Professional standard. Graduates are equipped to take on, or further develop within, roles such as School Business Manager, School Operations Manager, Finance Manager, HR Manager, or Trust Business Officer.

          The programme strengthens operational leadership capability and supports progression into more senior business management positions within schools and multi-academy trusts.

        As an apprentice, you will work towards the Level 4 School Business Professional standard, and may also be required to sit functional skills at level 2 in Maths and English prior to completion (functional skills will not be required if exemptions are held).  

        This apprenticeship is suitable for individuals already working in a school or trust environment with responsibility for business, financial, administrative or operational functions.

        Learners should typically have GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and maths at grade 4/C or above, or be willing to achieve Level 2 functional skills as part of the programme. Employers should be able to provide sufficient scope within the role for the apprentice to demonstrate responsibility across areas such as finance, HR, compliance, resource management or operational leadership.

        During the apprenticeship, the employer and Access Trainer will agree when the apprentice is ready for the end point assessment (EPA).

        The End Point Assessment (EPA) takes place once the apprentice has completed their training and portfolio and has met gateway requirements.  It typically consists of: 

        • A work-based project report 
        • A presentation of the project with questioning 
        • A professional discussion underpinned by a portfolio of evidence 
        • A simulated task designed to assess applied knowledge and decision-making.

            Apprentices will learn about accounting, business awareness, ethical standards, regulation & compliance and systems & processes.

            The programme can lead to progression into senior roles, such as Accounts Supervisors or Management Accountant positions.

          The apprentice will work towards the Professional Accounting Technician Apprenticeship standard at level 4, and will be required to have completed Level 3 Accountancy or equivalent, or have relevant work experience.

          During the apprenticeship, the employer and Access Trainer will agree when the apprentice is ready for the end point assessment (EPA).

          There will be regular AAT exams at the end of each unit. EPA includes:  

          • Synoptic end test  
          • Portfolio   
          • Professional discussion.
